Islamic Relief UK (IRUK) is a division of Islamic Relief Worldwide, an independent non-governmental organisation (NGO) striving to make the world a better and fairer place.
This policy describes how IRUK collects, uses, and discloses your personal data when you visit, use, or make a purchase from shop.islamic-relief.org.uk (the “online shop”) or otherwise communicate with us in relation to the online shop.
For purposes of this Policy, “you” and “your” means you as the user of the online shop.

When do we collect and use personal data
- When you purchase a product we will collect and use your personal data to manage your order, including processing the payment, fulfilling the order, sending notifications related to your account, purchases, returns, exchanges or other transactions, creating, maintaining and otherwise managing your account, arranging for shipping, facilitating any returns and exchanges.
- If you set up an account we will collect and use account information such as your username, password, and security questions. Please note that you are responsible for keeping your account credentials safe and we highly recommend that you do not share your username, password, or other access details with anyone else. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.
- When you contact us with a query, feedback or complaint we will collect and use your personal data to investigate the matter and communicate with you. We may also actively request your feedback to improve our services.
- When you visit and interact with our online shop we or our third-party data processors may collect information about you through the use of cookies. See the âUse of Cookiesâ section for more information.
- When you visit and interact with our online shop or advertisements, or open or click on an email we send you, we, or advertising partners we work with may collect information about you using cookies and tracking technologies for marketing purposes such as showing you advertisements on our website or other websites, and personalising our services, for example, using the products you view, put in your cart or add to your wishlist to send you advertisements for similar products that you might be interested in.
- We may also collect and use personal data to investigate and/or take action against any possible fraudulent, illegal or malicious activity, to enforce any applicable terms of service, and to protect or defend the services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.
In what situations do we share personal data with other organisations
- When you use or make a purchase some personal data will be shared with, and processed by third-party data processors that we contract to perform services on our behalf to make the online shop function effectively. For more information about their privacy practices including their use of third-party data processors, please refer to their privacy policy which will be available from their website. The third-party data processors we use:
- WordPress and Woocommerce to host the online shop;
- Holy Land Dates (HLD) to send products to UK customers and provide customer support such as returns and complaints;
- Shipstation to transfer product order information from Shopify to HLD, and to help HLD automate shipping, cancellation and return processes, including use of of notifications and geodata;
- Dotdigital to send direct marketing via email and SMS to customers where we have a lawful basis to do so:
- Zoho Desk to manage customer support tickets that HLD can also see;
- Opayo payment service provider to allow customers to pay for products.

- If you accept the use of cookies then some of your information such as your order history, device information and internet activity will be shared with our advertising partners when you visit and interact with our online shop or our advertisements, or open or click on emails we send you. Our advertising partners including Shopify, Meta, Google and X (Twitter) use this information to provide services that help us monitor the effectiveness of our online campaigns, display our advertising on our online shop and other websites and social media platforms, and to identify audiences with similar interests to yours. Our advertising partners use your information in accordance with their own privacy notices including for their own marketing and advertising purposes.
- We may also share your personal data in connection with a business transaction such as a merger, to comply with any applicable legal obligations (including to respond to valid legal instruction), to enforce any applicable terms of service, and to protect or defend the Services, our rights, and the rights of our users or others.
What is our lawful basis for collecting and using personal data
- Where it is necessary to enter into or fulfil the terms and conditions of a contract we have with you, for example, processing your order.
- Where we have your consent, for example, we will only collect and use certain types of cookies if you accept them.
- Where the processing is a legitimate interest, for example, providing customer support is our legitimate interest to be responsive, provide effective services, and to maintain business relationships.

The online shop may allow you to post product reviews and other user-generated content. If you choose to submit user generated content to any public area this content will be public and accessible by anyone.

Children’s data
The online shop is not intended to be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data about children. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with their personal data, you may contact us to request that the personal data is deleted.

We keep personal data in line with our record retention schedule for common records created as part of advocacy and fundraising activities. . The length of time we keep each category of personal data will depend on the reason it was collected and any legal, contractual or other business requirement we have for keeping it. Your right over your personal data
- Direct marketing: You have the right to ask us to stop processing your personal data for any direct marketing purpose including profiling. Please note that if you withdraw your consent this will not prevent advertisements being shown to you on websites and social media on a randomised basis.
- Right to withdraw consent: If we ask for your consent to use your personal data, you always have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
- Right of access (also known as subject access): You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you and to request a copy of that information.
- Right to object and / or restrict processing: You have the right to know why your personal data is being collected and used and to request that this is restricted or stopped.
- Right of data portability: You have the right to request that a copy of your personal data that we hold is transferred directly to another organisation.

You also have the right to make your compliant to the ICO direct. However, they may advise you to contact us to see if the matter can be resolved in the first instance.
